Inclusion & Accessibility
Shellharbour City Council welcomes all visitors to Carols by Candlelight and are committed to making the event as safe and accessible as possible for everyone. This year we have enhanced our accessible inclusions to include:
-
a dedicated accessible parking station that is able to be pre-booked
-
an accessible entrance point to the event zone
-
an accessible viewing area that is able to be pre-booked
-
a sensory tent
-
accessible amenities in the permanent amenities block and also an additional accessible portaloo
-
Auslan interpreters on stage that are able to be viewed LIVE on stage via large LCD screens

Sensory tent
A dedicated sensory tent will be available for anyone who needs a quieter, low-stimulus space or break during the event. Staff from Real Life Community Group will be on hand to provide calm, trauma-informed support.
The tent is free to access, doesn’t require a booking and will be located near the accessible viewing area and amenities. Feel free to come and go as you need throughout the night.
Accessible viewing area
A dedicated accessible viewing area will be available to be pre-booked via the form below:
This will be a 10m x 20m space that will be covered by flooring placed on the grass.
The viewing area is located towards the back of the reserve, this location has been selected so that it is in close proximity to the accessible amenities and carpark.
This year the stage will have two large LCD screens on both sides that will show the live performances on stage as well as the Auslan interpreters live on stage so you will be able to see what is happening on the stage at all times. (see map) Chairs will not be provided so if you do wish to have a chair please bring along with you on the night (camping chairs etc).

Accessible
toilets
There are accessible amenities located in the permanent amenities block and there will also be an additional accessible portaloo on site. All toilets are accessible via a pathed or bitumen pathway.

Accessible parking without a booking
There will be some accessible spaces available on the night for anyone who is transporting a person who holds a current mobility permit. Please advise traffic control and show your mobility parking permit and they will direct you to the designated parking area.
Pre-booking
Anyone who is transporting a person who holds a current mobility permit is able to prebook an accessible parking space. There is the option to book one standard parking space or two standard spaces if you require a larger space.
You will need to show your booking confirmation to the traffic controller along with your mobility parking permit to access the re-booked accessible parking
